Plastic wine bottles may not affect the wine’s taste, as originally thought, but it’s still unclear which is greener: glass vs. plastic. Both materials are recyclable, and both rely on fossil fuel in their production and transport.
But hey, you know what’s really greener? Reusing wine bottles.

I recently did a story for Earth911 on a new California company that collects, washes and sterilizes used wine bottles and sells them back to wineries for reuse.

This week, the Napa Valley Vintners announced they are finishing up a study of how climate change will affect wines in their region. Preliminary research indicates that Napa wines haven’t been affected yet, but will in the future.
